April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars who have managed to win medals in several Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll attempt to net her third medal alongside first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture their first Olympic gold. The next opportunity for her when she turns 39. She is nevertheless confident that the top awards are on the horizon. Ross came into the world in 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and her sister. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. As a student-athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. But she clearly was a superior player in her other sport. When she played in her college volleyball years as per her college bio, she was middle blocker, an outside hitter, and setter. Thanks to her hard work she was awarded in 1999 as the Gatorade The Circle of Champions' National Player of Year. Her volleyball skills also earned her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Ross Klineman joined her collaboration in the year 2017, however, Ross was an established player on the beach long before. She has won major tournaments twice with different partners. In one of the tournaments, she is an icon in the world of volleyball. They teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, in addition to serving as Kessy's Klineman and coach. Kessy and Ross were strong on the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title together. They also won the Silver Medal from the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor were the winners, beating them to it. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. In 2016, the two received bronze medals in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. In high school and the many years before hitting the beach as a professional Ross made her debut for the USC Trojans as a collegiate. In fact, her time in the Trojans' ranks was a memorable one. In 2000 she was recognized as Pac-10 Freshman, and NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named she was an All-American. She also helped the Trojans advance to their first Final Four. She was devastated by a personal loss in her sophomore season, but she still repeated as an All-American. In her two final years as a member of the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them succeed in winning consecutive championships. In her own way, she cemented her place as a legend after winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award went to the most outstanding female player in the country. Ross studied internationally-related studies at USC. However, Ross mother Margie never got to see Ross rise to the most elite levels of beach volleyball stardom. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away of breast cancer. Yet, she is able to keep her mother's memory close and close. and Margie is an ongoing source of encouragement for her at the beach and in her everyday life.
